Quantum Applications

By taking advantage of quantum properties, a wide variety of fields are able to innovate entirely new ways of doing things. The most well known application is quantum computing, which uses these properties to process data in completely unique ways. Other fields which are taking advantage of quantum are: chemistry, biology, material science, communications, and cryptography. I think quantum applications are currently an underappreciated opportunity, and I believe that getting involved now before the demand will spike is the best way to get a head start. Of course, no one can say for sure how long it'll be till quantum goes mainstream like AI does, but I believe it is inching closer every day.

Artificial Intelligence

Yeah yeah I know. I'm a Computer Science major I'm functionally obligated to be thinking about this stuff. On a serious note since AI has gone mainstream it's been pretty helpful for me. In classes I can use it to find out what I'm confused about and then fill my gaps. When I'm doing research it convieniently searches the web. It has also been interesting to see how businesses are approaching implementing AI into themselves. Some are doing it well, others are not. Some are getting praise, while others are getting a PR disaster. Understanding how AI works, like any technology, is going to be important so that I know how to use it best.

Graphic/Visual Design

As someone who thinks very analytically, it is hard for me to be creative in certain ways. Even though I'm not looking to work as a creative, developing that skill will bring new perspectives to problems I solve in tech. It will also help me help me better express the work I do, and will help me with branding and marketing if I decide to start my own business.

What am I working on?

The Quantum Student Society is a club focused on bringing Quantum applications and education to Penn State students. We serve as a supplementary resource for students pursuing quantum, and as a community for those already involved. We work with our partners in academia and industry to bring opportunities, insights, and connections to our members.

Inspired by the Lemonade Stand podcast, I worked with some other developers to create a discord bot which could simulate stock purchases. This is similar to platforms like Investopedia's Stock Market Simulator, but in a Discord Bot form. I primarily worked on the Discord bot and some of the API's frontend. This was my first "real" project with Python, and while we were able to develop quickly, it was kind of a nightmare to deal with external package nonsense and object typings.
